Visitors to Magilligan Point this August will have a rare opportunity to explore its famous Martello Tower. The 200 year old fortress, built in 1812 to guard against the threat of invasion from Napoleon’s France, is not usually open to the public. As well as tours of the fort, a Living History expert, in the guise of a member of the fort’s garrison, will explain and demonstrate weapons and artefacts from the early 19th century. Experts from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency will also be on hand to describe the biodiversity of the beautiful nature reserve which surrounds the fort.
