Summer 2010
Children introduced to Captain Cleanup
Children at summer schemes across Belfast have been enjoying a flying visit from the city’s very own caped crusader as he spreads his message to get tough on litter.
Captain Cleanup is proving the hottest ticket in town this week as he brings his roadshow to more than 500 children attending Belfast City Council summer schemes.
Having declared war on his nemesis General Grime, the superhero is recruiting volunteers to help spread his anti-litter message.
Councillor Ian Adamson, chairman of the council’s Health and Environmental Services Committee, said: “Captain Cleanup is always a big hit with the children when he visits schools and summer schemes throughout the year. Education is a vital part of the council’s work to help reduce litter on our streets and to change littering behaviour for the better.”
The council recently launched a new anti-litter campaign, ‘Littering. It’s not a good look’ which uses a series of retro ‘pop art’-styled advertising.
