Summer 2010

Youth arts festival at Millenium Forum

The Millenium Forum will transform its auditorium to present two whopping gigs during InterAct Youth Arts Festival, especially for the youth of the City.

InterAct 2010 will kick off with an Opening Night Party on Friday 30th July with bOUNCE Junior, and wind up with a Wrap-Up Party on Thursday 5th August with an almighty gig night headlined by Fighting With Wire fresh from their headline performance at Glasgowbury.

Kwame and the crew at bOUNCE know how to put a party on, and at the special behest of our Youth Forum who create the Festival programme, bOUNCE just had to play a part at InterAct 2010. That’s why bOUNCE Junior has been given a night all to themselves, to do what they do best: create good vibes, play great music and have you catch their infectious upbeats, and have a blast especially for 12-21 year olds.

The set-up for these all-ages standing gigs alters the Forum as you know it. All seats in the stalls are removed, the hydraulic floor is lowered, and the stage is dominated by a gauze backdrop onto which the supremely talented F12 project their transfixing visuals.

Derry's post-hardcore upstarts Fighting With Wire will let rip on Thursday 5th August at the Wrap-Up Party, which should be a nice sweetener for those of you who are patiently awaiting the release of their new album ‘Bones of the Twilight.’ This album, their follow-up to the much-admired ‘Man Vs Monster,’ is currently being recorded at Dark Horse Recording Studios in Nashville with legendary producer Nick Raskulinecz.

They of course will be back in the country to play the Glasgowbury Festival on 24th July before headlining what will be a rocking gig at the Forum. Support on the night comes from a rack of punchy riff-laden bands in the form of Belfast’s More Than Conquerors, and Derry bands Intermission and Heavy Set Bayonet.

Tickets for bOUNCE Junior on Friday 30th July, priced at £6, and Fighting With Wire, More Than Conquerors, Intermission and Heavy Set Bayonet on Thursday 5th August, priced at £7, are currently on sale at the Millennium Forum Box Office, T: 028 7126 4455. This project is funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Reconciliation Fund through the Department of Foreign Affairs. InterAct is also kindly supported by our sponsors: The City Hotel, The Derry News, Q102fm and learningpool. For full details log onto www.interactyouth.com
